St. John's Cathedral 150-year "Raise the Roof"

A Year to Celebrate! We kicked off the year with a truly unforgettable evening, marking the remarkable 150-year anniversary of the Cathedral of Idaho.

While every Cathedral is a church, not all churches hold the status of a Cathedral. Our Cathedral serves as the “Mother Church of Idaho,” hosting the bishop's seat, known as the Cathedra. This prestigious designation allows the Cathedral to be the heart of significant liturgical celebrations within the Diocese. Notably, it is here that we celebrate the ordination of priests and deacons and the sacred blessing of oils used in every church throughout the diocese.

Thank you for joining us at the St. John’s “Raise the Roof” Gala. It was a delightful evening dedicated to honoring the Cathedral’s 150th anniversary. The walls of the Cathedral are rich with history, and it was a true privilege to celebrate the vision and commitment of those who built this sacred space, paying tribute to those ordained in the past and those yet to come. We deeply appreciate your generous and faith-driven support, which helps us preserve this rich history for future generations.

As we move forward, we’re excited about hosting more celebrations throughout the year to commemorate this special milestone.

At the Gala, we presented an engaging exploration of the Cathedral's history, taking attendees on a remarkable journey through its timeless architecture and the significant events that have shaped its legacy. This captivating narrative is designed to enhance your appreciation for this majestic structure.

Our second video highlights the Cathedral's current pressing needs, emphasizing the critical importance of preserving its intricate details and structural integrity for future generations. Through these efforts, we aim to ensure that the Cathedral stands as a testament to our shared heritage for many years to come.

Celebrating 150 Years

by honoring our Living Rectors who have served at the Cathedral

As we continue to celebrate the 150th anniversary of St. John’s as both a parish and a Cathedral, we took a moment to honor our Living Rectors who have devoted their lives to serving this community. Nearly 100 people came together to recognize the dedication of these rectors, who have had a profound impact on our parish. We were delighted to have Fr. Joe McDonald, Fr. Henry Carmona, Fr. Jerry Funke, and Fr. German Osorio join us in person for this special occasion. The gathering was filled with shared experiences and cherished memories shared by both the priests and parishioners. A heartfelt thank you goes out to everyone who helped make this celebration a success, including the staff of St. Joseph’s School, the St. John’s Cathedral team, the Caballeros de Colón, and all the extra hands that assisted, especially at the end of the event.
